The 5 biggest drivers for extinction are:
* destruction of habitats
* monocultures
* pollution (microplastic, pesticides, heavy metals, forever chemicals, ...)
* climate change
* invasive species

In other words the single biggest driver for extinction is capitalist extractivism and exploitation.
We clear forests to build roads, cultivate monocultures to feed our live stock, burn fossil fuels to power our consumerism and put our waste in the ocean. That destroys the ecosystem, species become extinct or seek refuge somewhere else and become invasive there.

And with "we" I don't mean you or me - I mean the morbidly rich!
I'm not blaming anyone but the 1%. They are the ones that have everything and cause everything.

There are a lot of solutions for this crisis, but we can't realize them without creating a system that prevents morbid abundance.
If the 99% decide to eat less meat, so we don't need so much land for our food - will that really save the rainforests or will it just free up more land for the rich to build more golf courses, factories and AI server farms?

We need to talk about a wealth maximum, an income maximum and an interest maximum. Then we'll realize we don't need endless growth, we don't need exploitation of the 99% and the ecosystem, we won't need 3 full time jobs to 'make a living' and we won't need mindless consumption to numb ourselves in our spare time.

Thought of the evening: I wonder how many SOCs would ignore an alert if the source machine was named, "ThisIsATest".
Throwing this out there for anyone else who hates deciphering 365 logs as much as I do - this page will make you hate your life less: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/audit-log-activities

A funny anecdote from the CrowdStrike charlie foxtrot: following the CS remediation guidance, a bunch of systems still would blue loop. I've been working on a project to disable various AV vendors at boot time, including CS, and provided it to work. It wasn't the original purpose, but worked great.
I always figured that Microsoft was full-on running stuff that's attached to e-mails when it processes them through Exchange Online Protection for a company's 365 tenant, but, none-the-less, I was still pretty amused to have a Microsoft sandbox run the reverse shell and connect back to my listener.
With everyone posting these awesome aurora photos, I just want to take a moment to say, "fuck you clouds! You fucked up the eclipse, don't take this from me too!" I've got maybe an hour left in me before I pass out. Hope to catch a glimpse.
...I need a new job. I was at 34 hours for the week when I clocked in this morning. It's only Wednesday morning.
So, everyone seemed to have a good time with it. Took half the team working together just shy of four hours to figure it out while working. I'm now working on developing another puzzle, and I'm thinking about putting together a small in office CTF for them to do too.
I work 100% remote, and only go into the office after hours when I need to physically touch a piece of hardware. So, I went in Friday night to work on something, and while waiting on processes to run I left a team building exercise for our entire team. Everyone seems to be having a good time so far. I left each person with seven bytes written in binary on their white board, with a letter to determine order. If they work together, they will find that it's a Vigenère cipher. One person was left with the key to the Vigenère cipher on their board in a Caesar cipher. We'll see how long it takes.
Nothing quite like waking up, going to the computer, moving the mouse, it blue screens, reboots, fans go full tilt, CPU is 114 C, and the system shuts off. New AIO installed, system is running cooler than before it went ape shit. Though, the process of getting there was less than enjoyable. Cooler was so stuck to the CPU that it yanked the CPU out of the socket, even though it was locked. Then, I had to rewire half the case. Looks good, though.
