Happy New Year from a very wet Galloway.
The weather has turned to unseasonably warm today.
The wind is howling and the rain falls constantly but only as light drizzle.
A distinct change to just a few days ago. A few more days of warm before the cold returns over Christmas
Photo is from a wander in the forest a few days ago, when everything was still frozen
Before The Thaw
Cold and grey today with intermittent showers of sleety snow.
Last week though was just beautiful
Frozen ground, crunching leaves and grass and everywhere is white with frost.
A delightful, cold, beautiful wander on the edge of the forest. Enjoying the first proper feel of winter
Good Morning 😊
It's a beautiful, cold, frosty morning in Galloway
Last night's moonrise.
Heading back from a wander to watch the sunset behind the hills I noticed the moon rising in front of me. There was still some colour in the sky and the tree appeared to be leaning towards the moon, welcoming it.
Moon Rising
Full moon rising on a late afternoon, early evening wander.
The beautiful silence of Galloway disturbed only by the sound of the river gently flowing below me.
A cold, clear sky. A circle of colour in the sky around me, creating silhouettes of the trees on the surrounding hills.
The moon beginning to rise behind the forest.
It's been a crunchy morning.
Very cold overnight but such a clear sky and bright moon. I went for a wander just before midnight and didn't need a headtorch. The moon lit everything up clearly.
The ground was firm and the grass was frosty.
Getting home to a lovely warm fire and a cup of hot chocolate.
Finally it feels like winter has arrived ☺️
Reach Out ....
I love exploring the forest at this time of year. When the weather turns to cold and misty the forest takes on a whole new personality.
After the vibrant colours of autumn, everything feels darker and closer. The forest quieter, the sound of every footstep seemingly intensified.
The silence broken by the call of a jackdaw or the bark of a deer in the distance.
The warmth of autumn leaves replaced by the cold of mist and damp moss.
