On February 2, 1848, in the Villa of Guadalupe Hidalgo, the peace agreement was signed that ended the war between Mexico and the US started in 1846. The Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Limits and Definitive Arrangement, which today we know as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, implied for Mexico the loss of the territories of New Mexico and Alta California, in addition to the recognition of independence and retroactive annexation of Texas to the USA.
