I think I got a shot of a Cordyceps fungus yesterday in the leaf litter around our garden. Here is a contrast-enhanced detailed zoom. Note the bug parts at lower left. Uploaded to #inaturalist

Anyone want to confirm the id?

An hours and a half of staring at #Orion before moonrise on December 30.

Bottom left is Rigel and the Witch Head nebula; top right is Betelgeuse (not exploding)

The Orion nebula itself is the bright slightly over-exposed blob. You can see most of Barnards Loop arc around the Horse head nebula, which is a tiny black line against the pink blob background.

Annoyingly, I can't *quite* fit the whole thing with the 50mm lens, so maybe it's time to see if I can make the 35mm one work.

I have seen two news stories in the past 6 months about Jackson, Mississippi.

1. The white state government is removing the locally-elected judiciary of the majority black city and replacing it with unelected, white-appointed courts.

2. Hundreds of bodies have been found buried behind the jail, many of people never charged with a crime who were reported by families as “missing”.

These are fundamentally the same story.

This sweet girl has been the only wasp to pose for me since I've moved to Sri Lanka. She is easily the largest potter wasp (Delta pyriforme ssp. pyriforme) I've ever seen.
