Island lover; scientist; traveller; blogger; views are my own, who else could I possibly blame? Lives on Yunbenun - https://maggieislander.wordpress.com
Pretty wet leaving Magnetic Island right now, wet all over NQ
The last month of 2024 was interesting-the data are now in. It was an all time record for rainfall in December (nearly 600mm) and a pretty wet year overall (nearly 2m). #Arcadia #MagneticIsland #Yunbenun #climate #meteorology 2/
Rain event: now more than 230mm over the last 24hrs, waterfall and creek flowing through the backyard @bomfeeds @bom_qld #climate #weather #Yunbenun
Inching towards half metre of rain so far this month; the normally dry creeks are flowing #climate #weather @bomfeeds

Overcast weather with some storms over the last week, about 100mm in total, 15mm overnight before yesterday’s walk in the NP (Yunbenun). Amazing how plants respond to a bit of rain, lichens and mosses, in particular, and fungi come to life with vibrant colours.
The day is warming up but only low humidity, could be worse! But it’s only the beginning of spring 🙄 #weather #climatechange #MagneticIsland

Atlantic Ocean circulation nearing ‘devastating’ tipping point, study finds:
Collapse in system of currents that helps regulate global climate would be at such speed that adaptation would be impossible

I escaped the heat before #Jasper arrived, desperately needed to get away and do some exercise (bit too hot in the tropics right now). Hells Gate (Noosa NP) was my go-to walking destination for the last week.
On #Yunbenun (Magnetic Island), the vegetation is drying out, trees and shrubs are turning more deciduous under stress, dropping their leaves, aided and abetted by the strong winds lately, good for #bushfires and habitat for death adders which should be more active in the warmer weather.
