I am an Associate Professor and the head of the Laboratory of Cardiovascular Cell Biology at Vanderbilt School of Medicine (AKA The Burnette Lab). I also design clothing (mostly activewear) featuring photographs of cells taken through a microscope (Mag2Art.com). (he,him)
It is a great time of year to gift wearable science communication! That’s right! Activewear featuring photographs of the powerhouses of the cell, mitochondria! Get them now at my store Mag2Art.com.

Having a cocktail at the Nikon party at #cellbio2022 with a giant squid. I am having a better time than it is.
Pop-up poster update. Come by Zach Sanchez’s pop-up poster today at #CellBio2022! Unused posterboard B55 now has an opportunity for you to discuss with Zach the progress he has made doing expansion microscopy with cardiac myocytes! #cellbiology

@LeslieSutton My favorite “I worked insanely hard” story was from a time when my lab was yet to be funded. I had worked on a R01 grant proposal for four months and then decided to also submit a R35 (MIRA) grant proposal a week before they were both due. Good thing too. The R01 was “not discussed” and the R35 was funded. That manic week with no sleep was so worth it!
@LeslieSutton There will be multiple times going forward that you are going to feel overwhelmed doing science. As long as you take time to recover from intense research/writing sessions, you will look back on them with fondness. This experience will make for a good story after you are accepted to a grad program; whether that is this year or next. Good luck!

The right side of the design holds the equivalent of ~3 full pages. It’s more than enough space for a lot of data and I have found it drives deep conversations. That’s the beauty. People who walk on by get the take-home message and people who step up to the poster get a deep dive.

If you use this format, let me know. I would like to come by and see it at #CellBio2022.
