Long before the internet, some phone networks were hackable by playing a single tone at 2600Hz.

Whistled into a phone, it could grant you unrestricted access. Do you have the vocal chops to be an old-school phone phreak?

I built a web app to test your ability to produce the legendary frequency. You won't get free long distance calls but you will get some honor in the knowledge that you could have been a cool hacker. 😎

I am sad to say that I can only whistle up to 1100Hz... But my wife (a long time woodwind player) is able to consistently get it.

Give it a try: https://phreak.kmcd.dev/

Test your phreaking skills by hacking this phone line.

Few things infuriate me as much as someone posting screenshots or pictures of text pages and then just writing "screenshot of a text" or "a text page in a book" in the ALT text.

Visually impaired people have the same right to information as sighted people! It's not accessible to exclude us from the written content. And no, a brief summary like "a funny text about dogs" isn't accessible either. At least give some more details if you don't want to type out the whole text.

Stop excluding us!

Coding in C(offee) or C++(offee) or C#(offee)?

@sapphireangel Agreed :) let's catch up soon!

Hi everyone, two small bits of news from us today:

1) Hot on the heels of yesterday's 2025.1 release, there's a minor point release - NVDA 2025.1.1 to fix an issue which affected some users (updates for both those on stable, and those on RC / Beta branches): https://www.nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2025-1-1/

2) We've re-enabled taking NVDA Certified Expert exams (we froze them while we were having those site issues): https://certification.nvaccess.org/

@sapphireangel Checking... Let's see. I think I'm a standard user, no root / admin access. So I guess my admin privileges have been revoked.
I decided to perform a vibe coding experiment with o3 pro. I asked it to generate a complex game, and it can do it in any way it thinks is efficient. The one guideline is that it's supposed to be accessible to screen readers. After deliberating for about 13 minutes, it presented me with a text-based adventure game. I know I said make sure it's accessible, but... is that the first thing that comes to mind when people think of accessibility? Like, "Let's just give them a text-based UI". Don't get me wrong - I love CLI and would prefer it over anything... but a bit of imagination goes a long way. One can argue that I didn't give it any specific guidelines so CLI was its first choice... but still. Interesting experiment though. 10/10 for efficiency, 4/10 for creativity.
@sapphireangel Lmao apart of the few Maga folks, I don't think anyone is going to sign up. That phone is a joke. Apparently storage (256 gb I think) and ram (12 gb) are both considered storage according to their site. And, they don't even list the processor the phone uses. It's honestly sad.
