The thing about the white power movement is that white people were in power for 95% of modern history and that’s how we got World War 1, World War 2 and Cats (2019) like this shit hasn’t been great

Please, tell me again how expensive it will be to stop burning fossil fuels and deal with #climate change?

North Carolina calculates at least $53 billion price tag for Hurricane Helene damages

The storm and its aftermath caused 1,400 landslides and damaged over 160 water and sewer systems, at least 6,000 miles (9,650 kilometers) of roads, more than 1,000 bridges and culverts and an estimated 126,000 homes, the budget office said. Some 220,000 households are expected to apply for federal assistance.

Occasionally I see a thing happening and I'm like "damn… I wonder what a journalist would have said about that, if they still existed"

Today Trump "worked" at McDonald's and I got to thinking that the irony of Trump's McDonald's photo op is that:
•As a convicted felon he can't actually work at McD's as they don't hire felons
•As POTUS he blocked a $15 min wage that would've helped countless McD's employees
•As POTUS he weakend McD's employees ability to Unionize, keeping them economically powerless

And now he shows up at McD's to pretend like he's a common man. In reality, his photo op is 100% fraud—which tbh defines him well.

Me: Are you happy?

8-year-old daughter: Yes I'm happy, and I'm happy I'm a girl

Me: Why are you happy you're a girl?

8: Because girls are better than boys, and smarter.

Me: So boys are dumb?

8: Oh my God you admitted it! Boom! Roasted! And you proved my point by admitting it!

Me: Well... no...what...no

8: Too late. You admitted it. I have to go now and do smart girl stuff.

Me: but..But....

Wife: 😂

My cool neighbor has outdone herself on coolness. Look what she made and left in my rock garden. The creativity! The details! They each have a backstory, too. For example, the one with the elaborate goldenrod hat is a bard. Two of them are hunter-gatherers.

LA Times owner seems to be in league with Trump, vetoing a Harris endorsement and then letting the campaign use standard-issue lies to smear the paper for something it didn't do.

The editorial page editor quit in protest and she deserves our respect.

She has more courage than the vast majority of our political press corps, which still normalizes Trump and will be culpable if he -- and then Vance -- become America's fascist rulers.

Los Angeles Times editorials editor resigns after owner blocks presidential endorsement

Mariel Garza, the editorials editor of the Los Angeles Times, resigned on Wednesday, after the newspaper’s owner had blocked the editorial board’s plans to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president. “I am resigning because I want to make it clear that I am not okay with us being silent,” Garza told me in a […]

@straphanger Having lived in Zurich for a few years: when I moved for work reasons from Zurich to suburban Virginia, USA, I was depressed for a few months. I could never make sense of what a colleague called "carbon-based socializing". Aptly named, for any social interaction – birthday party, dinner, soccer game, stroll in the park – started and ended with driving a car through a 3-lane highway.

Johns Hopkins reports that Texas abortion ban led to 216 additional infant deaths in 2022

Journal of American Medical Ass’n reports in the 14 states that banned abortion 134 women are impregnated by rape Daily

Northwestern reports that maternal mortality has doubled & rapidly increasing post Roe

Every medical & academic institution reports that banning abortion is killing women & babies while empowering rapists—yet GOP doubles down

It was never about life—it was always about control of women
