Feeling frustrated with VitalChek bureaucracy. I requested death certificates for two of my great-grandparents as a genealogist because I am a generation too distant to be “entitled” as a relative. They require *a* credible *copy* of documentation (*a* birth, marriage, or death certificate) linking my relationship (genealogist) to the person named on the certificate.

What single vital document would prove that I have a genealogical interest in these people?

I submitted a combination of official and unofficial documents to show that they are my great-grandparents, but was told they were not sufficient 🙁

My Norwegian great-grandparents immigrated to the US in 1903 and 1905 and were naturalized in 1918, but they had siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews back in Norway when red hats were outlawed there on February 26, 1942.

Red Hat Factory is encouraging people to wear red hats today, February 26, 2026, “in support of Democracy, Menneskeverd, and Unity“ https://redhatfactory.com/pages/red-hat-resistance Here in the Twin Cities, I’ll be plugging away #knitting Melt the ICE Hats https://payhip.com/b/TqQL1

I have another thing you can do to help people in Minneapolis!

These kids are raising funds to go to Space Camp. It’s a beautiful structure: families pay what they can, then •all• the families fundraise the remaining total for •all• the kids together. Either everyone goes or no one goes.

The ICE invasion really knocked the fundraising on its heels this year: everyone diverted, one major fundraising event cancelled. It’s looking a little dire; maybe no one goes this year. They could use some help.

I finished my pair of #socktober socks and highly recommend the 3-needle parallel bind off for cuff down socks! Roxanne Richardson’s tutorial is great: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Namjnu_lbWc
