Museum ship curatorial work is a unique beast. In a building, you know when the roof is leaking. On a ship, water can leak into some really hard to get to spaces. We have hundreds of them. This week we are on a quest to confirm that everywhere on board is dry. We got pretty dirty.
While filming I managed to absolutely cover my clothes in cosmoline. I didn't even realize it until after. And once I found one spot I found another. Then I was mentioned that the entire backside of my pants was covered.
Anyone have tips for getting it out? I started with the dishsoap thats for the ducks post-oil spill, moved to gojo, I think my clothes are just ruined.
We got a donation of ship models that aren't super well labeled and when the intern asked for me help I was able to identify a Porter Class destroyer in her 1944 configuration.
For someone who doesn't know ships, apparently I've learned a lot of about ships.
