@caseyliss @djloehr @sarahhbickerton I just finished the latest episode of Football is Life and enjoyed your conversation around it. I was surprised though that no one mentioned what seemed like coldness between Michelle and Dr. Jacob and some warmth between her and Ted. Ted seemed thrown off at the end of the episode and I think it is a crack in the door to his possible return to the states. It may be about more than just Henry.

Pennington Seed targets NFL owners again with their #FlipTheTurf campaign. Intended to launch with the draft, this year's campaign features a conversation between George Kittle, David Bakhtiari, Will Levis and others about the benefits of grass fields for players and the environment.

Flip The Turf

It's time to swap NFL stadium turf for real grass. Pennington is challenging the NFL to protect its players and the environment by converting its artificial turf fields to real grass.

This new album from Colony House is so, so good. A multi-repeat from beginning to end for me.

I was wondering if anyone @bookstodon has a recommendation for reading Brandon Sanderson for the first time.
I know I like sci-fi and fantasy, so that's not a problem, but I'm worried about dipping into a long, long series head on.
I was thinking about starting with Elantris, but that being a first work I'm not sure if it reflects his present habilities.
If I like my first Sando book, I then want to try with the Stormlight Archive.

@jofagobe @bookstodon I think your wise not to jump right in to the #stormlight archive. Elantris is a perfectly fine book to start with – but the cosmere tie-ins are latent.

I’d give a very serious look at starting with #Mistborn trilogy to start with. Those books are reasonably sized, the story is a lot of fun, and the sequel trilogy #waxAndWayne is ridiculously entertaining.

@icecubesapp is there a way to get a scrolling timeline? All I get is jump to the top or one by one new entries?
It would be such a boon to indie authors if awareness of these practices and pressure from the podcast and YouTube community would lead to improved practices. Maybe other authors, such as @neilhimself, who are already active in advocating for others would join that cause.

On the Kindle side of things, this post on Reddit contains some details on the delivery fees that Amazon charges per megabyte of content in Kindle books. $0.15 per megabyte fee added for each book.

u/PeterAhlstrom is the VP of Editorial at Dragonsteel (Sanderson’s company) and comments on the effect this has on the quality of images used in ebooks.

Brandon Sanderson takes stand against Audible for “unconscionable” indie author pay rates

The article linked in the first post details the criticisms being leveled by a NY Times best selling author who is in the privileged position of being able to champion this issue. He is also a successful YouTuber, friends with many of the podcasters in the tech community, and is trying to open new paths for indie authors to find profitable success.

Overview
It is common practice for indie authors to receive as little as 25% if they don’t offer Audible exclusive rights to their audiobooks.

With all the time given to critically evaluating Apple’s profit share with developers, I’d love to see the tech community give more attention to the stranglehold that Amazon has on their creators, specifically indie authors.

(Edited) I would love to hear the thoughts of those who have navigated the Apple--Developer--Podcaster relationships and the parallels they can see for authors struggling with Amazon/Audible.
