Reminder to all the new folks who have joined us over the past week: please make sure if you are tooting links regarding, or have commentary on AusPol, elections, political parties and your views on them, electoral politics, or geo politics you are required to use the CW feature on those toots.

We understand that for some people this is a new idea so we will not be going back in time to punish folks.

Whether you use the browser or one of the many apps, that feature exists whenever the text box is up. It will not hide your toots from peoples feeds, it will simply act as a subject line to allow people to opt in.

This is a request to make our lives as volunteers easier, but don’t mistake that for being optional, bad actors will be removed.

Please refer to the Aus Social code of conduct before asking questions https://aus.social/about (but otherwise feel free to ask questions)

Big thanks from the Aus Social mod team - H

Aus.Social

Welcome to thundertoot! A Mastodon Instance for the People.

Mastodon hosted on aus.social

Currently Masto.host is experiencing the highest volume of traffic that has ever reached the infrastructure.

The service is partially degraded and I will be doing fast upgrades on the platform.

These can lead to partial downtime, errors and large delays in support requests.

Really sorry. Doing the best I can on my end. Hope you understand. Thanks.

I’m just figuring this CW and alt text out - this is my first time

Isn't it kinda weird that #Mastodon gets described as 'left-leaning' because we handle more strickt rules and don't tolerate things like bullying.. It could be me but I perceive this as 'normal'.

I mean you don't call people all kinds of names in a conversation on the street or in the store right? Even if you don't agree🤔

Somehow it feels the (online) standards for treating each other have declined so much over the past few years

Let them talk, we are a loving and happy community!

We just got linked in a guardian article.... If we immediately crash, we get to blame @joshtaylor

I did some scaling last night to handle more and more people, let's see if I'm good at computer.

What is Mastodon, the social network users are leaving Twitter for? Everything you need to know

Verification is free, toots are twice as long as tweets – but you might find it hard to replace your Twitter follower list. Here’s how to use it, find a server to join and navigate the fediverse

Blood moon night with the five year old should be interesting. I've set the Sony to talk to an iPad, so she'll be capturing photos too.

I've shown her what we're aiming for: the last time I got a lovely blood moon shot, it looked like this back in 2018.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but:

If a particular instance's social mores or terms of conduct don't suit you, maybe there's another instance that'd suit you better. It is easy to move, you will not lose your followers/following, and you can still find people on any instance to follow.

Take your information and do what you want with it.

#Mastodon is like starting a new RPG. You start off with no party and kinda lost, but over time you gather comrades and gain experience and confidence in equal measure. You're gonna be okay :)

Do you have a WordPress blog?

You can turn it into a Fediverse server using a simple plug-in. This means that people on Mastodon can follow it just like they follow any account on here.

Here's more info about how to do it:

(NOTE: This doesn't work on free blogs hosted by wordpress.com)

The plugin is totally free. If you appreciate the plugin, remember to send its maker @pfefferle some donations at https://notiz.blog/donate
