The Yellow-Footed Rock Wallaby may be the handsomest marsupial alive today. Barely two feet tall, this acrobatic hopper not only scales cliffs and climbs rocks with superb agility, it can also leap over sizable chasms and climb up tree trunks. It is found in the rough terrain and rocky outcroppings of western New South Wales, eastern South Australia and isolated portions of Queensland. Mainly nocturnal, it shelters in small caves or crevices during the heat of the day, and comes out in late afternoon to graze on the vegetation. It is a sociable animal and is often seen in groups of 20 or more.
