It’s starting to really get to me in the UK how many people are furiously angry about the prospect of more solar on fields when *many actual farmers* are enthusing about how great mixed-use fields can be. (Solar can shade animals and plants. In many cases, it can also be combined with rainfall capture. It’s about making better use of some land, not replacing one thing with another.)

@AnarchoNinaWrites On an OSCE election supervision mission on Kosovo. We got invited to the home of one of our translators.

"Why are you here?" the parents asked. Meaning, why have you given up a fortnight's pay to volunteer to come and live five to a room in a place with no hot water to work a 30 hour day in the freezing cold just to help us?

I explained that my grandparents' generation had done fuck all about the reports coming out of Germany, and although the reaction to the impending genocide in Kosovo had been getting towards the too-little-too-late stage, at least "we" eventually actually did something this time.

And whilst I couldn't help with the military intervention, that not being my skill set, when it came to helping run an election that *was* something I could contribute to.

"So that is why I, a Jew, am sitting in your Muslim household, depending for my safety on those German squaddies down the road", I said.

They understood.

The Minnesota Senate has now passed the trans refuge bill, a conversion therapy ban, *and* an abortion refuge bill. Solid day's work for the North Star State! All three have already passed the House and are expected to be signed into law.

If you need help let me know. If you don’t want to make the jump, still say hi so I can follow ya! 👍

Calling it a gotcha that I "critique Biden policies after voting for him" is what's wrong with US politics today.

Voting for him doesn't mean I can't critique him—it's literally the best reason to be critical. It's called holding electeds accountable. It's how democracy works. And it’s how political parties work when they aren’t cults.

It won't get the headlines of a major disaster or a famous person's criminal trial, but this may be one of the most important stories of our time.

U.S. renewable electricity surpassed coal in 2022

Electricity generated from renewables surpassed coal in the United States for the first time in 2022, the U.S. Energy Information Administration announced Monday. Renewables also surpassed nuclear generation in 2022 after first doing so last year.
