There looks to be another influx of Twitter escapees. I’m guessing there may be some new folks that don’t know we exist. Most instances are terrific, but if you’re on a general interest instance and have any desire to be among fellow #legal professionals, we’re here, nazi free, and would love to have you.

@andrew @law sorry, I know I should know this, but are there any added limitations to searching/being found if you’re in a smaller instance? Also, can you see/ forward any of your old posts/likes if you move? Thanks!

@Bethanyrberger @andrew @law Don't know about porting, but the discoverability downside (upside?) of a smaller instance is that the universe is smaller since the server only sees people that have connected to the instance via follows. It means that basically every major instance is connected, but you'll have fewer of the smaller/single-person instances that have connected to the big ones.

No need to be sorry! No limitations beyond the limitations inherent to Mastodon itself (search on all instances is pretty bad). You can move followers but not posts, unfortunately, so if you inactivate your old account on mstdn.social your posts will go away.

You can always sign up over here for a test run and not port anything over until/unless you’re ready!
