Several European countries are considering social media bans for children. We must regulate platforms, not children. We must shift the burden of safety from the children to the corporations that profit from the environment.

I urge caution:
✅ Focus on "safety by design"
✅ Demand algorithmic transparency
✅ Enforce the #DSA & #HumanRights standards
✅ Consult experts, civil society and children

Fair use remains the right starting point for thinking about AI training. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/01/search-engines-ai-and-long-fight-over-fair-use
Search Engines, AI, And The Long Fight Over Fair Use

Long before generative AI, copyright holders warned that new technologies for reading and analyzing information would destroy creativity. To anyone who disables paste on a 'confirm password' field... that makes the experience of using a secure, random-generated password on mobile a horrendous experience.

Unfortunately, here's another case, this one from #Ireland, where there's a call for authorities to be able to "access" encrypted online messaging services

It's particularly disappointing that the call is coming not from law enforcement but from a judge on the High Court, who I would have hoped would take #privacy concerns more account

And anyone familiar with Irish history of the last 50 years knows there has been notorious abuses of #wiretapping in the past
