Exploring the Fediverse one instance at a time. Looking for a place to call homepage.

Show me your photoblogs, your pixelfeds, your memes, and your sh*posts. Show me your tech news, your video games, your artblogs, and creations. Show me your comics, your jokes, your shower thoughts and nonsense. And follow me if you want a random assortment of the very same.

This is not a well organized place but it is curated with intention.

Also, the capybara is my spirit animal.

There's a Fediverse alternative to #Reddit called #Kbin. More info at https://kbin.pub

Still VERY new, not many servers yet, two so far in English:

https://fedia.io
https://kbin.social

No app yet, use it through these sites. Subreddits are called "Magazines". You can interact with magazines from other servers.

Coders help Kbin at https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core, non-coders donate at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kbin

(Sorry to people bored of this, had many requests to put info in one place)

I think there's a balance that can be struck. Years ago, I played many hours of an early access game that I paid $19.99 for (Rust). Each week, they had new skins in the shop and charged anywhere from $3 - $5 per skin. I didn't mind buying skins because it was a way to differentiate yourself in game and it helped fund continued development.

On the other hand, Rocket League is downright asinine with how much they charge for cosmetics. $22 for a goal explosion, $20 for a high end car decal. I get that it's a free to play game now, but there's no excuse for those prices. It's infuriating.

What it boils down to is whether the developer is trying to enhance the game for the benefit of their players and make a little extra on the side, or if they're trying to exploit their customers. Some do it right. Others... Not so much.

WIth Reddit self-destructing, many have been wondering about alternatives on the Fediverse.

I do NOT recommend Lemmy. I have serious long-standing deep concerns about the developers, see here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379

As far as I know, nothing has changed since then and Lemmy's issues remain.

Alternatively there's Kbin (https://kbin.social & https://kbin.pub) which seems less problematic. Regarding cryptocurrency issue: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediparty/pulls/97#issuecomment-663170

While I appreciate and even agree with this post, I get an "old man shakes fist at clouds" vibe. Nintendo knows all of this. How could they not? This person is far from the first to express all of these sentiments. That hasn't caused Nintendo to change their mind yet, and I don't expect that it will any time soon. Still, I applaud them for adding their voice to the chorus.
