because the macbook neo has an A18 Pro SoC & 8GB of RAM in it, apple should let me plug an iPhone Pro with the A19 Pro SoC and 12GB of RAM into a USB-C/Thunderbolt monitor and use it as a Mac - charge me a $200 Mac enablement fee if you have to

Whenever I see posts about ultra performant zero copy JSON serialization libraries I get sad as it reminds me of the state we’re in with Swift.

Does Swift have the slowest JSON serialization among all languages out there?

(and most iOS apps basically just decode JSON to rows on a table)

I feel like Swift team will be busy with sendable for the next five years, so hard to imagine much improvement in this area.

If KMP didn’t exist this might have a shot but there’s just no way any big company app switches to or uses this. There’s just no incentive for Apple for this long term.
Announcing the Swift SDK for Android

Swift has matured significantly over the past decade — extending from cloud services to Windows applications, browser apps, and microcontrollers. Swift powers apps and services of all kinds, and thanks to its great interoperability, you can share code across platforms.

I've been able to brush off most of the erasure of trans people from government websites, but this one is REALLY getting under my skin. It's just complete revisionist history. How fucking dare they Old vs. new

This is where you go to tell the National Park Service to restore the word "transgender" in its entry on the Stonewall monument. (Scroll down.) https://www.nps.gov/ston/index.htm

One of the ugliest parts of SwiftUI is the 5-plus-year wake of technologies and patterns that has been left. Two eras of state management (ObservableObject, Observable), two eras of data flow (Combine, structured concurrency), two eras of navigation. It erodes trust, complicates planning, and fragments community knowledge. iOS 15 and iOS 16 are terminal versions for multiple devices. <= iOS 15, <= iOS 16, and <= iOS 17 all have fundamentally different best practices for SwiftUI architecture.
TIL Lock Screen widgets can have buttons
This is one of the most bizarre decisions by Apple in a while. https://mastodon.social/@MacDevil/113384906529600217
Let's be honest: we're all just randomly pressing Cmd + K and Shift + Cmd + K until the simulator's keyboard ends up where we want it to.
@rmondello Hi sorry for the unsolicited @, do you know why using SecAddSharedWebCredential shows a different UI than autofill heuristics for saving a password, the “Don't Allow” seems more aggressive than "Not now”. Also on iOS 18 it still says to manage passwords in Settings > Passwords instead of the new Passwords app
