@GottaLaff Jamie Raskin is Ranking member. He’s slapped 3Toes down with ease.

This may be the only bright spot in the entire Santos bio - and hilariously, the reason the GOP finally dumps him.

NEW: I just spoke by phone with Eula Rochard, a Brazilian drag queen who was friends with George Santos when he lived near Rio. She said everyone knew him as Anthony (*never* George), or by his drag name, Kitara, and confirms this photo is from a 2008 drag show at IcaraĆ Beach.

@catrambo Years ago, my doctor tried every antidepressant & I had terrible side effects. Finally someone realized middle aged women can be ADHD. Recently, I was weepy a lot. My son had been taking Lexapro with good results. It definitely helped me especially now that I’m 70 & my doctor took me off the ADHD meds I’d been taking for 15 yrs!
I didn’t see that coming.😳

Advice for new folks: Complete your profile info -- at least your name, ideally some bio info and avatar -- before you import your contacts to start following people on here.

The notification a person gets when you follow them is the salient moment to be followed back. But I'm getting notifications of new followers where I just see a handle I don't recognize and the default elephant. I'm sure some of those are people I know and would follow back if I realized who they were.

Why do we call them ā€œcentral banksā€ and not ā€œapex creditorsā€?

For thousands of years, fermenting beer was considered a household task for #women.

By the Middle Ages, some sold beer at English markets. Female brewers wore tall, pointy hats to be easily spotted. They stood by cauldrons & often had cats to keep mice away.

Sound familiar? It should.

You see, when male brewers felt threatened, they accused the women of witchcraft. These rumors may have led to some witch iconography we still recognize today.

Women used to dominate the beer industry – until the witch accusations started pouring in

Today, beer is marketed to men and the industry is run by men. It wasn’t always that way.

if 6.5 million people had been eaten by tigers and there was suddenly a new wave of super-tigers that could evade all existing anti-tiger precautions, people would think you'd lost the plot if you declared that the tiger problem was basically over

"Let's get something straight. Growing old doesn't make people #conservative. In fact the more marginalized identity statuses a person has, the LESS conservative they grow over time.
The reason we equate "old" with "conservative" is that #marginalization kills people off younger.

Some of the most radical people you know are old.

It's just a lot of others died before they could get there, so there's a diminishing proportion. (2/5)

Interesting piece in the #Nature journal about the #birdsite and its importance in #science.

As a very recent arrival on #Mastodon and in the #Fediverse, I'm seeing far more engagement here than on Twitter, despite having far fewer followers here.

Being here feels like the earlier days on Twitter, where posts are generously shared and where there is a genuine sense of building and supporting a community

I hope this continues and that the wider #Science and #Environment communities and also #universities jump on board.

For a now slightly dated view (in Nature) of the merits of Mastodon for scientists, see also this:

#ScienceCommunication

Twitter changed science — what happens now it’s in turmoil?

The microblogging platform has transformed research communication, but its future is in doubt.

Here’s the reminder for all the #TwitterRefugees from the great #TwitterExodus to make sure you boost posts. This is the way we can find each other to follow and make sure we get our message spread. So what do we do here?
Favorite to show that you like a post
Boost to make sure others can find that person and give them visibility.
Oh, and don’t forget those hashtags either!
