Bill McKibben -The Crucial Years: Is $38 trillion a lot?
Because that's what we're throwing away
A new study released today in Nature examines data from 1,600 regions of the earth for the last forty years, and concludes that by 2050 #climate change will be causing economic damage worth $38 trillion every single year.
If those numbers seem impossible to comprehend, then let Bloomberg break it down for you, “planetary warming will result in an income reduction of 19% globally by mid-century, compared to a global economy without #ClimateChange .”
Climate damages by 2050 will be 6 times the cost of limiting warming to 2° #climate

Food waste is a global tragedy.
Not only is this a major development issue, but food waste continues to hurt the global economy & fuel the climate crisis.
Ahead of #ZeroWasteDay, check out the new #FoodWasteIndex report: https://unep.org/news-and-stories/press-release/world-squanders-over-1-billion-meals-day-un-report
Households across all continents wasted over 1 billion meals a day in 2022, while 783 million people were affected by hunger and a third of humanity faced food insecurity. Food waste continues to hurt the global economy and fuel climate change, nature loss, and pollution. These are the key findings of a UN Environment Programme (UNEP) report published today, ahead of the International Day of Zero Waste.
