Democracy in the US is defined as having a group of nine unelected high priests who make all of the important decisions and whose members are appointed for life and accountable to no one.

This is considered a very good system, a model for others to aspire to worldwide.

Here in Cleveland, Ohio they stopped collecting garbage because the air quality is so bad from the fires in Canada. This is fine.
The eternal conundrum
Now the summer thunderstorm season is here, I'm really missing Dark Sky. Apple's weather app is just not a decent substitute for it.

"Among those employees mentioned in the complaints is Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), who was the assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State from 1986 to 1994 and who has been accused of failing to stop Strauss from sexually molesting the student-athletes he helped coach."

Supreme Court rebuffs OSU and enables the remaining sex abuse victims to sue

The Supreme Court handed Ohio State University a defeat by refusing to reconsider a lower court ruling that said former students should be allowed to sue the university for failing to protect them from a sexual predator decades ago.

if we’ve brought back global pandemics, titanic disasters, railroad strikes, a King of England and Russian coups, we should also get to bring back the parts of the 20th century where they had cocaine in the soda and a minimum wage earner could buy a family home
I have no serious thoughts about the #meta thing, but the first thing that came to my mind was when AOL said "what could it hurt if we let our users access this new weird WorldWideWeb thing through their account?". Within a week I found an ISP and dropped my AOL account.
So I wonder if, when the term “DevOps” becomes fully cringe if we’ll all start calling Azure DevOps “ADO” just like the previous ADO and “ActiveX”?
[programming] it's just kinda nice stumbling onto the right name for a thing, and then getting to clean up the mess

Here’s the full version of the quote:

People are taking the piss out of you everyday. They butt into your life, take a cheap shot at you and then disappear. They leer at you from tall buildings and make you feel small. They make flippant comments from buses that imply you’re not sexy enough and that all the fun is happening somewhere else. They are on TV making your girifriend feel inadequate. They have access to the most sophisticated technology the world has ever seen and they bully you with it. They are “The Advertisers” and they are laughing at you.

You, however, are forbidden to touch them. Trademarks, intellectual property rights and copyright law mean advertisers can say what they like wherever they like with total impunity. Fuck that. Any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours. It’s yours to take, re-arrange and re-use. You can do whatever you like with it. Asking for permission is like asking to keep a rock someone just threw at your head. You owe the companies nothing. Less than nothing, you especially don’t owe them any courtesy. They owe you. They have re-arranged the world to put themselves in front of you. They never asked for your permission, don’t even start asking for theirs.

— Bansky, “Cut it Out” (2004)

This was actually adapted from Sean Tejaratchi’s “Death, Phones, Scissors” (1999). More info: part one, part two.
