Once there were songs for everything,
Songs for planting, for growing, for harvesting,
For eating, getting drunk, falling asleep,
For sunrise, birth, mind-break, and war.
For death (those are the heaviest songs and they
Have to be pried from the earth with shovels of grief).
Now all we hear are falling-in-love songs and
Falling apart after falling in love songs.
The earth is leaning sideways
And a song is emerging from the floods
And fires. Urgent tendrils lift toward the sun.
You must be friends with silence to hear.
The songs of the guardians of silence are the most powerful—
They are the most rare.

I got out for a paddle. being on the water always makes the world feel right again

"Then wind,

and a petal floated in the air before falling softly
into your glass."

When I was out walking yesterday I encountered some sheep on the path ahead of me and I ended up herding them, involuntarily, for ages. They didn’t seem to get that they could simply move off the path, left or right, and I’d no longer be ‘chasing’ them. I’d stop, they’d stop and so on. Anyway a black ewe decided to stop running and hide in the bracken. The flaw in this cunning plan was her bright white lamb.

"Madden and Palimi and Bryson, though, contested the analogy, arguing that the internet was better understood as a collection of monologues, or even as a bar room, “because most of its users are men, and most of the talk is of sex and sport.” These unbounded monologues are inherently uncuratable, which brings us back to the central message of Borges’s infinite library. Without boundaries and selection and navigation, libraries are useless." -- from 'The Library' by Stuart Kells

@StefanieH Lack of celebration was common here too, the mood was on the somber side.

I will if you do!

I really wish I could just do this all the time. Paint that is.
Beginning to realise that the light yellowish green I seem to mix whatever medium I’m using is my signature colour. For me that is the colour of foliage lit from behind by strong sunlight, of a lawn parched by the sun, the leaf of a sapling.
@Chloeg it looks cool and inviting.
@Chloeg
The scent of earth, the warmth of color, the ellusiveness of light, walking under the protection of tree canopies, all this and more in your painting. Thank you for sharing.
@GlennMG thats probably the most poetic comment I’ve had on a painting. Thanks. 🙏
