@Likewise It definitely doesn't read like a textbook, Schlanger writes well and organizes the material well. There's a lot of information packed in, and for those that want to look at more technical sources, those are provided at the back of the book. But I found it difficult to put down at times, it is so interesting.

If you do pick it up I'd love to know your thoughts.

@IzzyChambers One that I will go back again I'm sure.
@JD_Cunningham @bookstodon I'll second that! It's a great read.

@bookstodon A completely fascinating look at those creatures we new-kids-on-the-block humans wouldn't and couldn't even exist without - plants.

The author, a journalist, spoke to a number of plant scientists, visited their labs, and went out into the field with them. She learns and shares what they have discovered about particular plants, and explores the questions and ideas those findings turn up. Zoë Schlanger's enthusiasm and curiosity are catching and it's easy to lose yourself in the world of plants.

As for the plants themselves, it's amazing what observation and research is uncovering about all their different stories, and humbling to realize how much we don't know. Highly recommended.

Garlic Scapes

I might try printing this on Japanese Washi paper. I've got two on-washi-paper prints in a drawer at the gallery in White River Junction Vermont (not sure anyone looks in that drawer).

@StefanieH Along with the angora rabbits you'd have to hire an angora groomer and cleaner. I bet your neighborhood rabbit population explosion happened because your garden is so alluring, they just figured the more the merrier, moved in, and had babies.

On July 4th I was sorely tempted to wear a mourning outfit - a severe black dress, black tights and gloves, and a black hat with black veil. Oh, and of course a black edged handkerchief to dab at my eyes every now and again.

The Madeline Thien book does look intriguing doesn't it? I've got it on my library holds list and hopefully the wait won't be too long.

I do so agree with Matthew Slater about disengaging ourselves from the present economic system and work on joining and strengthening alternatives. I'd raise a glass of iced raspberry leaf tea to that.

I'm quite happy with how his came out.

After years and years of avoiding backlighting, I specifically took this shot *because* it was backlit. It's part of a 10 photo challenge from a photography training course I recently completed.

@zkarj woahhh that looks heavenly

I thought it was some 3d render at first, or a painting
@writeblankspace thanks. Your 3D comment is interesting. One of my goals in processing the photo is to make the bird 'pop off the page' so I guess I accomplished that.

@zkarj
Nice! That turned out really nicely!

Personally, FWIW I love shooting things backlit. Much more than front-lit ugliness LOL 😜

@zkarj

Go the spoonbill.

Waikanae estuary?

@zl2tod no, Pāuatahanui Wildlife Reserve. It and six companions had been resting in “the pan” and were flying off to feed in the inlet.
@zkarj love how the light shines through the wing.
