@jturtle
culturally i don't know how to avoid the "i'm mod of my own instance and i'm going to make that your problem" issue, like when white jackasses were telling black people to CW talking about their day because they felt uncomfortable racism is a thing. it's not as bad as a reddit mod who is utterly unaccountable and can just decide to cut you off from a topic because you called a bigot a mean name, but there is an attitude that every incident requires every soul on the fedi to get personally involved that just isn't emotionally sustainable. instance drama is extremely unpleasant and the only solutions offered are to go to smaller instances where you're further implicated in whatever beefs or to run your own instance as though money grows on trees and everyone is willing to buy hardware and set up software to shitpost.
oh and the feds got ahold of a kolektiva backup with our emails, DM's, encrypted passwords, IP addresses, and everything because some chucklefuck admin got arrested with the unencrypted backuo on a physical hard drive in their possession. so there's the issue of trusting amatuers with security and needing to assume an admin is feeding info on you to a hostile party.
i think at least part of this can be addressed with software other than mastodon focusing on performance and security and being nearly foolproof in terms of not letting peoole misconfigure shit, but bluesky doesn't fundamentally change any of the problems of corporate controlled media or the cultural problems of high density mod poisoning.
