π£ Science Week is getting exciting! π£
Our Key Stage 3 students are following the amazing journey from egg to chick as part of Science Week. You can watch the chicks hatching live!
Itβs a great chance to observe development, life cycles, and a little bit of the wonder of nature.

Last week in Key Stage 3 Science, students explored chemical reactions by reacting metals with water and acids, and developed their practical skills through distillation experiments.
A fantastic week of hands-on learning and scientific discovery in the lab! π¬β¨

Thank you to Miss Hardy for organising an inspiring Doctor Career Talk for our Sixth Form students π¨ββοΈ
Students gained valuable insight into studying medicine, life at university, and the journey to becoming a doctor β a fantastic opportunity to support their future aspirations! π©ββοΈπ

Our Year 12 Biology students recently visited the Biomedical Science Laboratory at DRI, gaining a valuable insight into clinical laboratory work π§ͺπ¬
They were shown how patient samples such as blood, urine, faeces and swabs are processed, how biochemistry and microbiology are used in diagnosis, and observed samples linked to infections including E. coli, Salmonella, MRSA, UTIs, sepsis, STIs and meningitis.
A great experience for students considering careers in science π

π§ͺπ¬ The Science Department visited Doncaster Museum to explore ways the exhibits can be embedded into our science curriculum.
We explored themes such as extinction, pollution and fossils, and were fascinated by a remarkable fossil of a large marine reptile β complete with its last meal of fish and squid still preserved! π
A brilliant opportunity to bring real-world science into the classroom and inspire curiosity beyond the lab.
π¬ Year 9 Science in Action! π§ͺ
Our Year 9 students have begun their GCSE Biology journey by developing essential practical skills using microscopes β¨
This week, they practised accurate focusing techniques while observing a fascinating range of specimens, including:
π©Έ blood samples
π¦ insect wings
π termite heads
π± plant stems
A fantastic start to building confidence with core biological skills that will support them throughout their GCSE studies! ππ
π¬β¨ What an exciting and busy Science Week at Hall Cross! β¨π¬
From designing and building ski lifts, carrying out colourful flame tests, to testing leaves for starch, our students have thrown themselves into science with curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm all week long π§ͺπΏπ₯
The Science Department would like to wish all students, staff, and families a very Merry Christmas.
