🌿 Year 8 Science 🧪
Today, Year 8 tested leaves for starch using iodine. A blue-black colour showed that starch was present, proving that Photosynthesis had taken place. Great practical work from everyone! 🌱📸 #enjoyingexcellence #biology

🔬 Our Year 8 students investigated the conditions needed for iron wool & nails to rust by testing them in salt water, tap water, boiled water with oil and calcium chloride.
This practical experiment helped them explore the Science of rusting and corrosion while developing their observation and investigation skills. Great work, Year 8! 👏🧪 #Year8 #Science #STEM #enjoyingexcellence
🔬 Year 8 Science in Action! 🔬
This week, Year 8 investigated how catalysts affect the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Students observed reaction rates and explored how catalysts speed up chemical reactions.
Great practical skills and scientific thinking on display—well done, Year 8! 👏🧪
Our Y12 Applied Science students have been practicing the separation of immiscible liquids in the lab today. 🧪
To build confidence and develop their practical skills, students first worked with different coloured liquids before progressing to the challenge of separating two colourless liquids.
A great hands-on session developing observation, technique, and scientific investigation skills! 👩🔬👨🔬

🧪✨ Crystal Creations in the Lab! ✨🧪
Year 9 students have been growing copper sulphate crystals through crystallisation, building key practical skills.
Year 8 students have been investigating how temperature affects crystal size—thinking and working like real scientists!
Great work from all our budding chemists! 🔬👏
We’re proud to share photos and a video from the recent STEM competition! 🤖✨
Two of our student teams competed in the First LEGO League at Sheffield (KS4) and Bradford (KS3). Since September, they’ve worked incredibly hard on both their robotics challenges and innovation projects.
They represented Hall Cross brilliantly, showing fantastic teamwork and resilience throughout. The progress and dedication shown by both teams were outstanding—well done to everyone involved! 🎉 #enjoyingexcellence
👨🔬KS3 Science Week has been packed with hands-on fun!👩🔬
Students explored the life cycle of chicks 🐥 (including holding them!), made salt water cells and created test tube water xylophones 🎶
🐣 Science Week is getting exciting! 🐣
Our Key Stage 3 students are following the amazing journey from egg to chick as part of Science Week. You can watch the chicks hatching live!
It’s a great chance to observe development, life cycles, and a little bit of the wonder of nature.

Last week in Key Stage 3 Science, students explored chemical reactions by reacting metals with water and acids, and developed their practical skills through distillation experiments.
A fantastic week of hands-on learning and scientific discovery in the lab! 🔬✨
