Here's a new guitar improvisation in the Broken Pieces series. These improvisations are a kind of meditation. I play freely (this time based around an A pedal) and then record a response. They are unedited and reflect my mood in the moment. youtu.be/tmOImZgGKPk

My latest improvisation in the series "Broken Pieces". I find the act of having a musical conversation with myself quite cathartic. These pieces are made in the spirit of music therapy and are not meant to be pretty (or ugly). They are a kind of meditation and reflect moods and emotions in the moment.

"Are humans the only apes capable of flexibly orchestrating #isochrony and #synchrony in their behaviour? To date, the joint presence of, and connection between, isochrony and synchrony in other mammals has never been found. Here we show the first #evidence for isochrony, #rhythmic flexibility mediated by co-singing, and synchrony in the #vocalizations of an #ape, the lar #gibbon."

Isochrony and rhythmic interaction in ape duetting | Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences

How did rhythm originate in humans, and other species? One cross-cultural universal, frequently found in human music, is isochrony: when note onsets repeat regularly like the ticking of a clock. Another universal consists in synchrony (e.g. when ...

Amazing letter from #jazz bass titan Charles Mingus to #JeffBeck. A whole album of Mingus tunes would not have been amiss. [via @purelava and @paulinraincity]
