Our gun violence madness is predicated on a fake understanding of 2A manufactured by the NRA. If we can change that understanding to what 2A really was about (SLAVE patrols, not minute men), then we can change the horrible trajectory we are on. That’s what this teach-in on the Hidden History of 2A is about. Please tune in to begin helping to change the trajectory!

June #KeepMarching Teach-In: The Hidden History of the Second Amendment and What Came After · MomsRising

The national debate about gun violence and gun policy reform rests on an understanding of the Second Amendment shaped by the NRA and other pro-gun extremists. Their definition asserts that the right to bear arms is – and always has been – a bedrock Constitutional right that guarantees freedom. But what if the NRA’s interpretation of the Second Amendment is historically wrong? How has the NRA’s version fed a gun violence epidemic that threatens and terrifies everyone, with disproportionate impacts on communities of color and other vulnerable communities? And how is the NRA’s Second Amendment increasingly infringing on other fundamental rights like free speech and safety? Other topics to be covered include: * The impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Heller decision on gun violence rates and on vulnerable communities * The unfolding impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Bruen decision * How 2A is increasingly infringing on other foundational constitutional rights Details: * **What**: “The Hidden History of the Second Amendment and What Came After” online teach-in * **Who**: Constitutional law professors Carl Bogus and Mary Anne Franks, with moderator Michele Ozumba * **When**: Thursday, June 8, 2023, 8:30 pm ET / 5:30 pm PT * **Where**: Online (Zoom), from wherever you are Sign up now!

@QasimRashid It's true they can't win on ideas, but neither do they seem to lose on ideas, which is so distressing and dangerous.
@adamdavidson Good tip, though so far it's been crickets for me. I do sense that there's an "in" club here and people are prioritizing people with big audiences.
How deep is Elon Musk's head buried in the sand that he was stunned by the booing he got (10 minutes!) at Dave Chappelle's show? "Like, how can this be real?" he says! https://boingboing.net/2022/12/12/video-of-elon-musk-getting-booed-on-stage-at-dave-chappelles-show-last-night-was-removed-from-twitter-heres-a-copy.html
Video of Elon Musk getting booed on stage at Dave Chappelle's show last night was removed from Twitter (here's a copy) | Boing Boing

Dave Chappelle had a treat for attendees at his comedy show in San Francisco last night. He brought attention-starved hectobillionaire Elon Musk on stage. Cameras weren’t allowed at the show,…

Owning a gun doesn’t make you safer. In fact it can make you a target, especially if you are a person of color. The intersection of race and guns is a particularly treacherous terrain.

@ifilljustice Great to see you on line yesterday for the WH Christmas tree lighting!
@shoq I am also eyeing an instance to test some concepts, but there are concerns about privacy and moderation and scale. In its sleepy early days, the Mastodon community seems to have developed a very specific ethos, which I think will have to evolve very quickly if it's to scale. And what will be replicable with Twitter and what won't be? Also, I'm wondering why Mastodon and not Tribel, which I'm also trying out.

@dangillmor Not exclusive - he's both malevolent AND stupid. You do nothing but drive away your precious few remaining advertisers with that line of arguing. Well, except for the Pillow Guy if he's an advertiser - he'll stay for sure.
