I am tired.
@asj it's like they completely forgot how USB is supposed to work when designing this thing ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

whoever at Texas Instruments came up with the pinout for this stupid USB mux: COME HERE, I JUST WANNA TALK I SWEAR ๐Ÿซ

(Seriously, look closely)

@tom_verbeure @xabean There's probably one or two hidden inside the mains connector - HP used those IEC jacks with integrated filters. But, if the OCXO was still being kept warm... That sounds like it's not the current causa mortis.
@isabel this has a hard to explain Therac-25 vibe to it

@derSammler @eschaton @pixel

Everybody has the right to an opinion. Unfortunately, case in point, some opinions are wrong.

Scoop: I obtained the contract Samsung requires independent shops to sign to buy phone repair parts from them.

It requires:

- "Daily" dumps of customer data
- The "immediate destruction" of any phones a shop comes across that has third-party parts

Samsung Requires Independent Repair Shops to Share Customer Data, Snitch on People Who Use Aftermarket Parts, Leaked Contract Shows

The contract requires repair shops to "immediately disassemble" devices that have parts "not purchased from Samsung."

My MD recorder isn't recording. This will be fun to diagnose.

Jason Scott is stirring up some drama on the eve of #VCFEast because he donated some stuff to #VCF but doesnโ€™t actually understand how โ€œdonationโ€ and โ€œarchivingโ€ work. Heโ€™s also taking at face value that someone was โ€œdriven outโ€ of the organization when they actually ragequit rather than work within proper governance.

VCFed is a decent organization, especially now, and the VCF events are great. This drama is a tempest in a teapot, and absolutely not a reason not to participate or attend.

@jwz yeah, the keyboard has to have the smarts to switch. Of my pile of ewaste, only one keyboard and two mice work with the adapter. Good that's sorted though!
@jwz my Indigoยฒ once stopped recognizing its keyboard. Tracing from the i8042 microcontroller responsible for PS/2 protocol, the pinout of which is standardized in this role, showed that its clock and data pins ended up at a 74ALS32, where they're buffered and sent out the PS/2 ports, and back from there. Probing there confirmed the signals to be dead. Replaced that and it lived. The Indy is a cut-down Iยฒ so same should apply, except parts are reshuffled and not everyone is up for SMD rework.
