My little orange cat energy collection. One cat has the mythical braincell, and the rest very much do not!

This one is also up on my shop as a shirt: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/4466637986/orange-cat-energy-t-shirt

As far as I can tell, the penalties here will be born by individual users sharing these images, with no accountability for the company that runs the genAI, hosts it, or distributes its posts (beyond the 48-hour takedown).

If Grok is generating and posting the images in response to a user prompt, I think both the user and Grok's owners should be understood to have "shared" the images.

this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive.

As if we needed another reason to distance ourselves from Google, here it is:

4/ I have an idea for the Prime Minister: why don’t we pull a Norway?

Let’s put a windfall tax on oil and gas companies that are projected to make $90B in profits this year because of Trump’s illegal war in Iran. Then, let’s use that money to fill up the Sovereign Wealth fund — and invest in projects that benefit Canadians instead of a few wealthy investors and CEOs.

Anyway, I drew Bulbasaur as a wretched medieval frog

News about big tech companies continues to escalate my concerns about the future.

These companies are controlling so much of our economy, culture, and information, and yet are escaping national regulation and taxation so effectively, that they're becoming shadow states: hugely politically and socially powerful, actively competing for power with and over territorial states, but untethered and unaccountable to the people and communities they wield power over.

Google Search is now using AI to replace headlines

Google is beginning to replace news headlines in its search results with ones that are AI-generated. After AI clickbait nonsense in its Google Discover news feed, it’s starting to mess with headlines in the “10 blue links” too.

Meta will be removing the end-to-end encryption option from Instagram DMs, due to "low adoption." Since it was set up as opt-in rather than opt-out, that feels to me like it was designed to have low adoption.

Yet another piece of encouragement to stay as far away from Meta products as possible.

Meta to Permanently Remove End-to-End Encryption Feature in Instagram DMs

Meta has confirmed it will permanently remove end-to-end encryption (E2EE) support from Instagram direct messages, with the feature officially shutting down after May 8, 2026.

“Enter as The Human You Are” - The Leveller

Progressive politics in Canada looked bleak at the end of 2024. For months, polling had indicated that a conservative movement was ascendant in Canada, mirroring Donald Trump’s return to the American presidency. After a long period of Liberal Party rule, there was a sense of overwhelming frustration with the status quo, in particular with its long-time figurehead, Justin Trudeau.
