This restores the “correct” macOS behavior for all Apps. Of course, apps with the “internal database” architecture such as Notes, are not affected by these changes.

2. Turn on “Close windows when quitting an application” which prevents documents from reopening the next time you lunch the app, but most importantly, as per the previous preference, prompts you to save or discard your changes.

Bonus points:
If in System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > App Shorcuts > All Apps you assign Cmd + Shit + S to “Save As…”, the Duplicate command is replaced on all File menus with Save As… and only reappears when you press the Option key.

@atpfm @siracusa Hi there! Just a little bit of #followup restoring the “Classic” macOS “Save As” behavior for all Apps.
This can be achieved combining two preferences in System Sertings > Desktop & Dock, under the Windows section:
1. Turn on “Ask to keep changes when closing documents”. This way documents do not retain changes until you explicitly tell them to.

@siracusa @marcoarment @atpfm Finally, you can create a “Archived” Gmail account exclusively for storing contacts you no longer want in your main iCloud Address Book. They will keep syncing to your devices, but if you select just your iCloud account on the (usually hidden) left pane, they will remain out of sight and out of mind. Long time listener here! @siracusa @marcoarment @atpfm Creating a linked “intermediary” shared account for you and your partner to sync selected contacts, can act as a way of keeping contact info in sync between two people address books.

@siracusa @marcoarment @atpfm #askatp #followup On Contact Cards: You do know that you can display contacts from multiple accounts (iCloud, Gmail, IMAP accounts, etc) in your Contacts App, right? This creates multiple contacts from the same person, but then, you can link them to appear as one. And when you change some info in one of them, it updates every single linked account. This solves John’s iCloud-Gmail situation.
