I remember Michael Brown’s disastrous handling of Katrina in 2005. Bush Jr had hired him, without any qualifications except as GOP donor, to run FEMA. "Heck of a job, Brownie!" became slang for politically connected but incompetent appointees. The current Trump picks are incompetent and unqualified but also mean spirited, nihilistic boot kickers. I wish the Trump admin was being filled with Browns, who had a good faith willingness to do the right thing, and knew when he was over his head.
By narrowly framing a few Kennedy claims about food, this NYT article sane washes what should be his immediately disqualifying claims about vaccines, wifi, COVId, etc. You can see in the comments how many latch on to this or that health claim as being credible so RFK deserves our consideration.
@dangillmor it’s asymmetric warfare. Liberals are willing to engage in the gray areas of policy making bec that’s reality. There are no bumper sticker solutions to inflation, housing, immigration, crime. But right wing “thinkers” will lie, obfuscate to push comically simple solutions or demonize opponents’ policies because they’re NEVER perfect. Real Scientists NEVER speak in absolutes And social media is optimized to promote extreme and outrageous ideas. Likes replaces expertise.
@heidilifeldman I think there is a strong % of ppl who just simply do not pay attention and lack decision making criteria. They had no world view to chose authoritarian over democracy. Just “feelings” They’ll see soon that tariffs will not change the price of Frosted Flakes. Deporting immigrants en masse won’t lead to new jobs and cheaper housing. Will they see Trump was a fraud? Maybe. But the Steelers or Blue Rays or Spurs are on TV. Don’t bother them now.
The US to me is like a former girlfriend with whom I had been madly in love, but with the years I realized how much I had been all the while ignoring the utter nasty streak deep in her personality. Yes it usually involved nastiness to someone else, usually undeserving. But it had been right there before me and I hate myself for ignoring it so long.
@muellershewrote "Hardest working politician" LOL
@NPR i can'tbelieve that this qualifies as a "released report" There's no visible text. Just blacked out. Pathetic.
@DemocracyMattersALot This is one of those survey questions that is likely a dog whistle for those who have a distict (and perverted?) sense of masculinity. I cant imagine most people even knowing how to interpret "completely masculin" Was it a likert scale: Completely unmasculin, somewhat unmasculin, masculin, somewhat masculin, completely masculin? If so, the middle choice could be interpreted as normal. While completely masculin is over the top or trying too hard? In any case. Stoopid.
@AxiosNews @politics-AxiosNews can I just point out the key differences between the two sides’ examples of gullibility? I consume lots of media and I never came across an instance of the Trump assassination conspiracy described in the linked WaPO article, nor have I heard it repeated by a mainstream Dem candidate. I’m sure there are isolated examples for the left, but each conspiracy from the right is amplified by right wing media and key conservative politicians and voices.
