This is the time of year, and the hour, where sunlight hits some of the smallest bits of land it ever does. Mostly Australia and the Antarctic. Most land is currently in shadow.

My current listen:

Close to a driving range where I often practice. This is very near the Tama River, which separates Tokyo from Kanagawa, and which flows into Tokyo Bay. When walking along here and seeing these on telephone poles in quiet residential neighborhoods, I realize I might have only about 10 minutes or so to find higher ground if a really big one hits just offshore. Mostly two storey homes here are probably not high enough. 😲 My house (about 5 km away) would be safe from this.
