@meganhadley @ScottEvtuch Absolutely! Tons of other cities have alleys and *none* of them do this. It's a Chicago thing that almost always causes unnecessary anxiety for people/dogs/etc. walking along the street. Just drive carefully!

Any moment now, as Christmas and (American) Thanksgiving get closer, people will start posting suggestions of things to donate to food banks and 'Reverse Advent Calendars'.

I can't stress this enough:
Just. Give. Money.

Food banks can usually get more bang for their buck than you can.
They'll probably be able to give you a tax receipt for money, but not for cans.
And it lets them buy, store, and distribute food in the volumes they need and can handle.

(Please boost to make sure people get the message.)

Things I’ve done in preparation as #thanksgiving host:
➡️ extra rapid tests and asking guests to test before coming
➡️ extra kn95
➡️ portable HEPA air filters in dining area
➡️ window will be cracked
➡️ hand sanitizer everywhere

It’s not just about #COVID when you have folks coming from all over with kids. (All are vaccinated/boosted). Taking precautions from the other lovely bugs out there.

@z_everson Well, for most reporters! I imagine it is for a very few like Legum and Yglesias.
@maxkennerly I find parts of the discussion on this confusing. If I'm just sharing voting locations on election day or non-partisan information, does that need to come with a CW? If I'm just sharing resources, does that? It's quite blurry and I don't fully understand the reasoning behind it.
@scottmstedman @mmasnick has been a must follow.
@mmasnick Okay! Haha, thanks for the heads up.
@mmasnick @shawrd773 Thanks for the quick response. I've always thought QT or what used to be the manual RT on Twitter is important because it helps you add context for why that particular post applies to your audience. I often do it on posts where 2 topics wouldn't seem connected but are. Or, just this morning, boosting someone's post yesterday needed the important context that Election Day is today.
@drvolts I'm so sorry Dave, and I'm so glad your son made it out safely. I empathize completely with all of your feelings on this matter.
