I'm pretty sure I'm moving from mas.to to here. This seems like a better interface than Mastodon.

Popping on the visualization (also linked above) bc there were a few questions about the data.

This chart displays the US Fish & Wildlife estimates of annual bird mortality in the U.S. from several human causes. /2

"The Texas abortion ban seems to have forced thousands upon thousands of women into unwanted pregnancies and births, reversed a nearly decade-long decline in infant mortality, and killed a lot of babies.

And, appallingly, according to CNN, 'Infant deaths caused by severe genetic and birth defects rose by 21.6%.'”

Texas Banned Abortion. More Babies Died.

Infant mortality in Texas was dropping for nearly a decade -- until 2021, the year the state criminalized abortion.

@georgetakei - I just haven't been able to get into Post, but I'll follow you there anyhow, even if I only check it once in awhile. I know there are longer-form blogging sites that connect to the Fediverse, whereas Post is stovepiped on its own server. Old-school social media is kind of like if GMail users could only email other GMail users, and Post is still following that model. 😞
Our landscapers made quick work of this jungle! These are four photos from four days of work. It's eventually going to house lots and lots of delicious berries!

@atomicpoet @[email protected] - Of course, the answer was a quick web search away. This cool looking fella is a firefish (or Firefish Goby)!
@atomicpoet @[email protected] - I think this is fantastic. I'm not sure what a Firefish is, but it's much easier to say than "Calckey," where I'm never sure if it's "calc-key" (why does a calculator need a key?) or "calkee" (whatever that means). I'm digging the new logo, too!
Unfortunately, this seems to encapsulate 3/4 of my experience with Calckey over the last week. 😟 I know there were server issues a week ago, right after I signed up, but those were supposedly resolved within a few days, and this snapshot is from multiple attempts to see my feed this morning.

Twitter is now paying people to spread hate

Hi all! I'm completely new to Calckey, trying it out to see how I feel about it compared to Mastodon as a way to stay connected to the Fediverse. I've never been a very active poster on "microblogging" sites, but I'll often peruse and sometimes comment on posts. I'm generally more into discussion than screaming into the void. 😃 #introduction
