Just woke up to find my book contract with University of Virginia Press for *When in the Course of human events: History and Historical Consciousness in the US Declaration of Independence* is signed, countersigned, and all locked down. An excellent way to start the day :)

I kinda love when non-bird people only use the male coloration of birds in their designs and unknowingly give us decorations featuring gay birds.
A huge @NAACP_LDF win here. Remember the case filed by @NAACP_LDF in late Nov and amended in Dec 2020, suing Trump & the RNC under the VRA & the KKK Act? One of our finest hours in 2020, I felt. It’s not over. And now we know so much more…
Thank you @SamSpital & the entire team.

US History teachers at my school still dig into the Dakota War with kids. One change in Minnesota since then is that all sixth graders take MN Studies now and the Dakota War is in the curriculum, many students have prior knowledge.

You might be interested in a discussion about teaching this in Mankato that I had with a colleague there:

@[email protected] I was working with some colleagues and we were increasing our emphasis on students using primary documents. The source base offered lots of opportunities for students to see perspectives. Tricky, though, because vast majority of our students are not Indigenous, which means that there is always un-learning to do on a topic like this.

Betty Parris was born in the MA colony to Elizabeth and Samuel Parris. Betty was a small girl in Salem Village and she and her orphaned cousin Abigail were the first accusers in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692.
The first person Betty accused, after displaying fits of energy and complaining of pinches and bites, was Tituba, an enslaved woman in her household.

The Trials led to the deaths of at least 25 people.

Experimenting with Google Sheets timeline tool. Figured out that, if I format a Form to use the same headers as the timeline feature, we could have a class collaborate on a timeline with each student sharing about a specific event or era. The end result would be a timeline that shows the relationships between the events. #edtech #edutooter #edutoot #googleET

@[email protected] very interesting! High school teacher here. I was teaching #USHistory in Minnesota during the 150th anniversary of the US-Dakota War. More recently I've taught much more #WorldHistory and would interested in transnational dimensions.
