@paradoxmo yeah I wanted to try pilot’s larger nibs and it came down to a music or a coarse and the music seems more interesting so that’s what I got. I’ll shoot you a message if I end up putting it up for sale so you can take a look
@penfount a retro 51 rollerball, an Apple Pencil, and micron fineliners are my go to choices when I’m not using my fountain pens. Sometimes an energel or g2 shows up too but those are more likely to be the pens I lend to others.
@paradoxmo @HeatherDLcreates I’ve got one on my custom 74, I’d definitely recommend one. They’re fun/useful enough that even with my ef/f nib obsession I still end up enjoying mine whenever I use it. If I end up deciding to sell it when I’m thinning out my collection after I finish moving in the next few days I can let you know if you want
@penfount honestly I tend to be pretty boring when it comes to this. I’m probably just going to refill the pen with the same ink that was in it before. Now on the other hand if I’m switching out a pen for a different one I haven’t used in awhile all bets are off, I’m going to rummage through my box of inks and pick whichever one appeals to me most in the moment. I’ve spent a lot of time writing work notes in varying shades of purple thanks to this approach 10/10 would recommend
@penfount I try and keep a cap of three or so in terms of how many I actually have filled at any given time but in terms of how many I own I think I’ll keep buying pens as long as I find ones I like and when I find myself with too many or feel like moving on from one I’ll sell it
@superplannergirl @taRxheel @penfount I’m not who you originally asked but yeah a Pilot # 15 roughly corresponds to something like a jowo # 6 in physical size. It’s the nib they put on the 823, the 743, and I believe the 845. Their giant nibs are the # 30 and # 50 from stuff like the yukari royale, emperor, and custom urushi lines
@penfount there’re some non standard nibs I think are really fun, architects and music nibs for example. But if I had to pick just one I’m picking fines, in particular Japanese fines every time. Still enough tipping material to have whatever level of smoothness or feedback you might want but also fine enough to let you write on nearly any paper with most inks. Napkins and tracing paper are the only things my fines have ever had trouble with at which point I break out the EF or posting nibs
@superplannergirl @paradoxmo this sums up my thoughts nicely as well. I’m keeping a foot in both worlds for now but the subreddit feel is different for sure and I want to see where things go here
@taRxheel they’re my testament to the danger of going into a pen store. Both the Pelikan and the Nakaya I picked up on vacation after using them in stores and falling for how they felt in hand
@paradoxmo nailed it. It’s one of his new ultem vacs. I’ve been meaning to try a vac pen for ages and I’ve wanted a Gravitas for awhile so I grabbed one real quick when they released
