PhD in computational neuroscience, currently an NIH IRACDA postdoc at Johns Hopkins University in Sri Sarma’s lab researching cognitive control and decision making using computational modeling and EEG analysis.

As an IRACDA postdoc I am also doing mentored teaching at Coppin State University, an HBCU in Baltimore.

Besides science, interested in: pursuing anti-racism in STEM and in society; radical pedagogy; critiquing and deconstructing cisheteropatriarchy, whiteness/white supremacy, capitalism and imperialism.

Okay, I guess I understand why KBJ is concurring in Diaz. She's saying that expert testimony in mental state cases is critical, esp in issues where, for instance, domestic abuse plays a role, to disabuse jury of its preconceived notions.

I guess I agree with her in the principal, but the outcome in this case strikes me as shitty. I'd file this as another example of KBJ's willingness to come to the *wrong* outcome for the *right* reasons, like the La redistricting case. More...

@NicoleCRust one thing in favor of twitter I did not see discussed is that the scientific community remains more diverse there than on Mastodon. There are more scientists, scholars, academics, and activists from marginalized groups still active on twitter. For example the #BlackInNeuro community is much more active on twitter with very little activity on Mastodon, which keeps me on twitter because that’s where a lot of folks I want to follow are.

Should neuroscientists stay on X or go? Let’s ask a bunch of people who have decided to stay. Voices are missing here.

@elduvelle in my experience Mastodon is much whiter (due at least in part to hostility people of color have reported when trying it out), and twitter still has a larger active presence of people I want to follow. For example, there’s little if any #BlackInNeuro activity on Mastodon except what is automatically mirrored from twitter, so following a lot of Black scientists, scholars, and activists is one thing that keeps me on twitter. In that sense I find Mastodon siloed in terms of a less diverse community actively participating here.

Do you think that #Mastodon is more “siloed” than #Twitter?

@elduvelle thank you!

I'm excited to share news that I have accepted an offer of tenure track Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Hope College, a small liberal arts college in Holland, Michigan, to begin Summer '24! I'm privileged and grateful to be joining an institution nationally ranked for undergraduate research.

And I'm grateful to all my mentors who have supported me in getting to this point, both during my PhD at George Mason
and postdoc in the IRACDA program at Johns Hopkins University, which has been a great experience, with research mentorship in Sri Sarma's lab and teaching experience at Coppin State University.

I'm also excited about joining an institution that has been honored with Higher Education Excellence in Diversity Awards and has a strong mission to continue improving diversity, equity, and inclusion. I look forward to starting my lab there next year!
