For My Parents, It Was a Return Home. But I Had to Face My Darkest Fears.

My dad was a soldier, a traitor, and a refugee. What would we find when we returned to the country he fled?

The criteria are vague for the 100 Greatest Podcasts of All Time.

It doesn't explain why a podcast should be included or excluded. It does say that some podcasters, like Joe Rogan, are included in another list: drumroll... 100 most influential people of 2025. The article did not name him directly, but the link points to Joe Rogan.

I never listen to Joe Rogan apart from snippets and agree that he gives a platform for misinformation. I just assume he would be on a 100 best podcast list.

@bicmay Apparently they are excluding the Joe Rogan podcast, which on all metrics is a bizarre omission.
@bicmay My immediate first thought: are those manosphere podcasts endangering democracy ranked higher? I hope any podcasts (whatever the subject) lasting longer than one hour are disqualified.

Quán Kỳ Nam aka Ky Nam Inn. Looks very Wong Kar Wai esk.

Former Vietnamese refugee says he is thankful for Japan after 45 years

The native of now-defunct South Vietnam boarded a small bamboo boat crowded with 24 people in the central city of Da Nang in March 1980.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. For @foodandwine, Doan Nguyen writes about how her parents escaped Vietnam in a fishing boat with nothing. They eventually made their home in Kinston, North Carolina, where Nguyen was born. Through her childhood, she mourned the family heirlooms and hand-me-downs she would never have, but as she grew up, changed her perspective. "I find it amazing that so many displaced people — especially my parents — took giant risks to better their lives and, in doing so, changed the landscape of food in America," she writes. "Their courage and the kindness of the people who fed us along the way are heirlooms I will always carry with me."

50 Years After the End of the Vietnam War, a Daughter Finds Her Inheritance in the Kitchen

During the Fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975, 140,0000 South Vietnamese people fled the country to escape the North Vietnamese forces. In April 1979, F&W photo editor Doan Nguyen's family left Vietnam on a fishing boat, resettling in North Carolina in 1980 with no possessions. Here's how she made her own family heirlooms.
