@chrmi gotcha! I ask because servers reflux damaged my vocal cords and now I speak in a lower voice which causes further damage. I’m not sure if the opposite could be true, my first thought was your long term safety due to my condition, sis. Vocal therapy might be covered if you go through an ENT.
@chrmi could you work with a vocal coach?

@sinabhfuil A lot of pulse oxymeters get a false reading from dark skin, it’s not just Apple. A lot of people with low blood oxygen levels died because of it in the US at the start of the pandemic. It’s still a problem now. The teams developing these technologies often lack POC on them and it never occurs to them to try it out on different skin tones. It’s another effect of systemic racism.

@BlueBoy @thinkjeffthink @blueboy @thinkjeffthink if you look into the advocacy work she’s done for the last decade or so it’s impressive. She’s a friend of a friend and I’m absolutely horrified by this. Edited to add her maiden name is Ferrell so some past work is likely under that name. https://nationalpress.org/award-winner/amelia-ferrell-knisely/

This story out of #westvirginia is horrifying. Blatant suppression of #journalism by the gov't. And it looks like #WVPB (the public television station) is going to go along with it. Gross.

A majority of Americans, including 77% of young people, approve of labor unions.

Just thought I'd pop in and remind you of that.

After the report about the Girl Scout mom getting booted from Radio City Music Hall, I spent the last two days reporting out the use of facial recognition technology by the Madison Square Garden empire to keep hundreds of lawyers that work for firms that have sued it from attending concerts, sporting events and shows. It is a radical use of the technology by a private company and I am truly shocked by how forthright MSG is about its real-world block list. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/22/nyregion/madison-square-garden-facial-recognition.html
Madison Square Garden Uses Facial Recognition to Ban Its Owner’s Enemies

MSG Entertainment, the owner of the arena and Radio City Music Hall, has put lawyers who represent people suing it on an “exclusion list” to keep them out of concerts and sporting events.
