emerging belief: to make computing better, you gotta center your work on people and more specifically people's relationships to both the computer and each other

anything that's like "you gotta use X technology" or "you gotta not use Y technology" is barking up the wrong tree cos it centers it on the computer and not on the people (and their relationships)

Today is the anniversary of the shelling of Ft. Sumter by the South Carolina militia, kicking off what would become the American Civil War.

If anyone tries to argue the Civil War was not about slavery, we need only point that misguided (misinformed, miseducated) individual to this statement from the Mississippi secession convention at the time:

"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery—the greatest material interest of the world."
