Torrential SF Rains and HNY!

Usually the countdown to midnight has a different cadence, but SF rainfall is nine one hundredths away from a record that stands since the Gold Rush! 5.45 inches since midnight, with six hours to go. Stay safe! #AtmosphericRiver !

“6 pm update for downtown SF rainfall since midnight is now at 5.45 inches, keeping us in 2nd place all time for the moment. Can we do it???”

We stay and fight on Twitter. We will outlast the narcissists/crazies. However, also good to have alternatives. So far I have been using Mastodon and http://post.news which is in beta testing & has a waitlist that goes quickly.

Imagine a piece of tissue paper.

Coat it with cyanotype chemicals.

Fold it into an origami crane.

Let it be a crane for a while, in any place with a bit of light. Ignore it, play with it, whatever.

After a while, unfold it. Develop.

You'll get an image.

The image is the memory of it's experience as an origami crane.

Repeat. Every crane's experience - and hence every image - will be unique.

Here's 4 out of the >750 I've made so far.

We have decided to create an account at Mastodon. We need time to learn how this platform works but also how to synchronize our work here with the Twitter account.

Thank you all for joining us here. No matter where we are, the mission stays the same. We are in social media to commemorate the victims of Auschwitz and educate the world about the tragic story of the camp.

And: #BringAustinHome: A decade is indeed too long. The start of a second decade just … unspeakable: Join in supporting @DebraTice #TiceFamily @wppressfreedom @washingtonpost @mcclatchy and ALL efforts to #FreeAustinTice, kidnapped in Syria in 2012 for doing his job: reporting.

A thing I found that’s true: It’s wise to have a thick skin, a sense of perspective (and humor) and some appropriate modesty (that word again) when involved in a news business. Especially a real-time digital, social, technology-driven news business. 2/2
As this weekend begins here on USA West Coast, a modest introduction: I’m an entrepreneur and investor, but I have always been proudest of this role: newsperson. That means different things at points in my professional life. Foreign correspondent, then Tokyo buro chief (@WSJ). Head of product management and ‘content’ (@Infoseek) and head of media and information (@Yahoo). Head of digital/finance/internet in NY @CNN for a while. President of consumer @Earthlink. CEO @McClatchy too. 1/

It’s about time we showed up here.

We’re The Markup, a nonprofit newsroom that’s skeptical about Big Tech. And there’s a lot to be skeptical about right now.

Coming here to say that I am advising students now and I love it!! Just wanted to share some happy good news in this new space of ours 😍.
