After talking with folk this past week: If you want to grow your company in an industry where you need to hire talent that has worked on competing products, maybe don’t bash on those products. Why would someone want to work for you if you constantly belittle their past work?
You can be critical of the companies, totally. I know I am! But the products themselves are personal achievements for those who worked on them. And you’ll need those people on your side to get ahead.
@eurydian A couple things that you may want to know up front:
- Guerrilla is an in-Amsterdam studio. If you aren't in the Netherlands, then relocation will likely be necessary. That said, the culture at Guerrilla is quite open to working from home as people feel they need to. Generally, people tend to work from home 1-3 days a week.
- The entire editor and engine is written in C++. There is a take-home programming exercise done at your own pace to evaluate how comfortable you are with C++.
@eurydian Definitely sounds like what you're looking for closely matches what tools programmers do at Guerrilla! Building tools and frameworks that other teams (and studios) can use to spend more time in their own domain/productions where they are experts.
I encourage you to apply to one of the Tools Programmer positions! https://www.guerrilla-games.com/join
Saddened to see more talented ex-colleagues laid off this week…
If any ex-Unity people (or current Unity people) want to have an exploratory chat about Guerrilla or the Decima Engine feel free to reach out to me! We’ve got a bunch of positions open!
