@ryderdavid speaking as a grandad; yeah!
@ryderdavid that's a big move; I hope it goes well for you.
@BeanThinking thank you. Your word 'rapidification' has lodged in my mind; it is an issue. I wonder whether it is perhaps a symptom of our generic loss of patience, of civility/kindness/compassion. Whether or not there is an underlying drift, your word does add to my current inner debate.
@BeanThinking thank you.
As I understand the process, one must open a new account and then follow a multi-step process to effect the 'migration'.
To be honest, I'm questioning the entirety of social media in my life. (I use FB only for a small number of interest groups; Tw is fading in appeal. I've no interest at all in others.)
If I do migrate I shall certainly avoid the smaller instances this time as it's evidently 'risky'.
@anotherwest @BeanThinking an interesting perspective. If I understand correctly, migration takes over your profile and the list of 'followed' people, but little else. Thus, it's a step or two beyond starting afresh, but no more.
I'm still debating with myself: I've not enjoyed my account as much as I had hoped and I am not sure I want to make an effort to continue.
@melix astonishing 🙂
@stargazerrob I love it - and 'pareidolia', which is a word to treasure.
@BeanThinking yes, thank you. Lovely scenery, interesting towns and some good conversation. I even managed to read a book and do a few word sketches for a short story.
@BeanThinking yes indeed. I too have been on something of a break whilst on holiday (the Rhine, lovely scenery, interesting towns). It's often a good time to reflect on what role social media ought to be playing in my life.
I'm looking forward to your promised KL-based post 🙂.

"home.social will close down on June, 16th 2023 23:59 CET."

This is regrettable, although I appreciate the reasoning (- which highlights underlying issues). Mastodon was an interesting experiment at a time when it seemed a necessary step. However, it's never really 'taken off' for me - perhaps that's down to my usage - and I am not convinced that migration, with its limitations (and the risk of moving to a server which itself closes down) is worth the effort. I'll decide before the deadline.
