Today - 25 July - is the deadline for user-to-user services subject to the UK's Online Safety Act to have "highly effective age assurance" in place for UK users, if the site's content requires it. (Not all sites/content require age assurance.)
*Please* be careful, especially if you are in the UK.
Think before handing over ID documents, and be especially mindful of mistyped URLs and other scams, trying to obtain your personal data for phishing or blackmail purposes.
Long time since I posted here.
I made a tiny website recently. It's mostly a mirror of my SFW commissions so far. It's quite basic, but it's all my own work.
I think a big problem here is that very few small independent services responded to any of these consultations because they were so long and complex. So now they're suddenly surprised that we exist.
If the government is going to insist on regulating these kind of hobbyist sites then maybe we have to insist on the government funding us to respond to consultations about it. Or otherwise they'll keep not finding out until it's too late.
What a mess.
