MottoEverything is a material. Everything is a tool.
Today, I and a buddy converted a door for a tiny home from a problematic 3-point locking system to a standard lock set. I removed the old lock, filled the edge dado and lock cassette hole with poplar and drilled new holes for the new lockset. Luckily the original strike plate just worked. #woodworking
This hawk decided to hang out just outside the window of my shop. My wife, who used to docent at the Woodland Park Zoo raptor center in Seattle, identified it as an immature Coopers Hawk. It's eyes are light colored but will turn more red as it matures. She guessed it was born this year and is already as big as its parents. It's about the size of a large crow. #birds #raptors
Here's the laser etcher in action. #woodworking #laserengraving #lasercutting
I finally succumbed to a sale on a laser engraver recently. Here is my first success with my biz logo. It's a little burned, but I'll figure out the right settings. I want a nice deep etch, but without the burn fog around it. #woodworking #laserengraving #lasercutting
I just installed a cabinet for a built-in electric fireplace in a client's home. It's made with maple with a light stain and a satin polyurethane clear coat. Used contrasting trim screws to fasten it to an internal frame. I learned some new techniques for applying the polyurethane that had way fewer bubbles. #woodworking
More progress on my table saw sled. I cut dados for the t-track. To make that easier, I made a router guide that is sized for my 3/4" bit. It turns out that the bit didn't make a wide enough channel, so i had to move the guide 1/32nd" and make another pass. #woodworking
Here goes Yet Another Table Saw Sled project. I'm starting with 3x3 custom's plan and modifying some: 1. increasing the length to 24". 2. Adding removable sacrificial inserts on the deck and fence. 3. Using an adjustable miter guide. #woodworking
Last fabrication step on my serving tray is to locate and drill holes for two handles that go on top at the ends for carrying. They are drawer pulls. I'm finishing it with butcher block conditioner since it needs to be food safe. #woodworking
I hand sawed the excess wood on my tray. That was sure a workout. Then I ran the rough side through the planer to smooth it. Sanding was next, working up from 40 to 220 grit. #woodworking
Some more cuts. My bandsaw isn't tall enough to resaw this, so I'm doing two deep cuts and will hand saw the remainder. Time for some exercise. #woodworking
