I was doing better until today's news about dismantling the Dept of Ed. Nearly all of the support for kids with special needs goes through schools and the DOE. There's already huge cliff at age 21 when those services drop out. It's frank cruelty to go after these families who are already working hard for the benefit of people who have more money than they need for multiple lifetimes. I am only rooting for the orcas and their yacht destruction from here on.

The most common genetic testing didn’t exist before the ACA and I’m worried about uncovering incidental findings that will make people uninsurable due to pre-existing conditions. I deeply appreciated Steve Silberman's science writing even more than his music writing. I was lucky to talk about Neurotribes with him at some MSG NYE. I just got approval for a new study on genetic diagnosis in adults with autism and was so hoping for another chance set break encounter. He represented that community with such thoughtfulness and nuance. Hoping the cystic fibrosis book is close enough to completion to be published - I've been looking forward to that one for years.
