The A18 Pro in the MacBook Neo is 19% faster than the M2 Ultra in the Mac Pro in single-core performance (Geekbench 6).

The MacBook Neo starts at $599.

The Mac Pro, which is still for sale, starts at $6,999.

@siracusa So far, your Hyperspace app has spotted over 200GB of possible savings within my Sync.com folder. And it’s still running. Considering that my entire folder was 1.2 Tb, this is a quite significant space savings. I had been loath to use previous duplication-spotters for fear they might mess things up hopelessly. But I feel pretty safe with your app.

Developing this app* is leading me to discover some interesting files on my Mac…

(There were three identical copies of this file.)

Accidental Tech Podcast: 617: The Incredibly Dangerous App

Three nerds discussing tech, Apple, programming, and loosely related matters.

Had a nighttime visitor. A lovely Oleander Hawkmoth (Daphnis nerii) spotted in Singapore on 25 Feb 2025.

@gruber Re: your latest talk show, you and Joanna Stern were speculating on how nice it would be if you Siri had a dial you could set anywhere from friendly to nasty. I guess you don’t have Carrot Weather, huh?
If you’ve ever been “paranoid” about how ad-tracking data might be used to follow you personally, more reliably than a private eye — my friend, you don’t know the half of it. @acedtect This would a GREAT DTNS story—or a subject for one of your ancillary podcasts. How the Pentagon Learned to Use Targeted Ads to Find Its Targets—and Vladimir Putin

Meet the guy who taught US intelligence agencies how to make the most of the ad tech ecosystem, "the largest information-gathering enterprise ever conceived by man."

@christianselig I’m loving your Juno app for Vision Pro! Just one question: Is there a way for me to go to my list of followed creators? I don’t use it a lot but do need it occasionally to find a post. Again, congrats for your new app, and for any #AppleVisionPro users out there, be sure to download Juno!
@leo Shame on you, dear Leo for leading a bash session against the coolest device since the iPhone!
@dtnsshow
FYI, I had a long discussion with the late Hugh Downs about the origins of the “TV Network Accent,” and it turns out that Johnny Carson, Dick Cavett and Hugh himself (plus my mother!) were all born and raised in Nebraska. I contend that the Nebraska accent is the closest thing Americans have to a “flat” ie no-longer-regional accent. That’s YOUR podcasting accent, Tom!
@marcoarment A week ago, on The Talk Show, you mentioned a favorite coffee roaster. Mind reminding me what it is? @gruber
