i heard dave from dopey on Really Good Shares and listened to the episode of Dopey after Chris, the other host, relapsed and overdosed. this episode is really good i can’t believe dave and chris’s girlfriend were able to speak so candidly about their feelings like, a few days after Chris’s death.
i particularly like how dave describes the feeling of distance from the last time you speak to a dead friend. like liquid freezing solid.
hearing abt how people trying the vision pro demos automatically reach out to touch things in them like the butterfly and dinosaur etc, and don’t need instructions.
i have a bag that looks like a piano and everyday, in the real world, i am the dinosaur or butterfly for people. everyone wants to know if it works. and they reach out and touch it.
at first i was baffled but ive learned this is something clearly hard coded into ppl’s brains. (it does not work, it is a bag)
I'm clearing some of my archive of articles and this 2018 article abt nanette is good. I was particularly struck by this quoted section from the special.
To say self-deprecation is humiliation is a strange position - because it lays bare the kind of self-deprecation you're doing has negativity at its heart. and it rly rejects like, the ways that queer people have done comedy and self-deprecation without their own humiliation. for decades! weird move, tells on urself.
