The most fun I've had lately is with the ATS Mini V4, an in-the-palm-of-your-hand radio. BCB thru the FM broadcast band, AM/FM/SSB/CW. Fits in your shirt pocket.

@timbray WindowServer is doing practically everything for you, second only to the kernel. While typing this, I see mine is 25 to 40%).
It's probably not the thing making your Mac hot. More likely some bad (Electron?) app is the root cause.
