@richmadam I personally think naming conventions now in human society tend to follow integration. I assume the same would hold true of multiple self-aware species. Is the alien on earth or in some other capacity trying to integrate with humans? Then they will adopt our naming conventions, unless prevented by physiology. Are humans on the alien planet or trying to integrate with the alien species? Then our naming conventions will change.
